Communication, Education, & Marketing Technical Division Awards

Distinguished Individual Achievement Award 

This award recognizes efforts by individual SWANA members for service to the Communication, Education & Marketing (CEM) Technical Division, supporting the mission of SWANA to advance the practice of effective communication, education, and marketing to the waste and resource management industry. 

Award winners will be selected by the division's Awards Committee. The following will be taken into consideration during the selection process: 

1. Service to the Technical Division: Nominee is a current member of the Technical Division, has served in one or more leadership positions in the division, and has actively participated in division committees.
2. Support of SWANA Mission: Nominee is an active member of their chapter and may have served on the SWANA Board of Directors, Advisory Board, or other national or chapter committees.
3. Contributions to the Solid Waste Management Field and Other Factors: Nominee work includes active roles and responsibilities in this sector of solid waste management and demonstrates strong character through their activities throughout the industry. 

OUTSTANDING AWARENESS CAMPAIGN 

The CEM Technical Division Outstanding Awareness Campaign Award celebrates community efforts that drive measurable improvement towards one of the following:

• Increasing participation in reduction, reuse, recycling, or other resource management programs.
• Increasing health and safety of resource management initiatives.
• Reducing contamination to preserve the value of resources.

GAME CHANGING TOOLS 

The CEM Technical Division Game Changing Tools Award recognizes an organization that accomplishes one of the following:

• Equips communities with funding, technology, data, media, legislative, or community outreach materials; or other support needed to advance solid waste management to resource management.
• Supports the public health and safety of those working in the industry.
• Ensures a just transition to the circular economy.

OUTSTANDING SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN 

The CEM Technical Division Outstanding Social Media Campaign honors excellence in executing an education and outreach campaign as demonstrated through engagement and reach on social media platforms. Campaign actions may include increasing awareness or inspiring actions which reduce waste and climate impacts, improve safety, or otherwise uphold the mission and objectives of SWANA.
